Digital technologies are generating unprecedented volumes of data that offer new opportunities for social science research. The ability to systematically collect and structure digital information has become increasingly important for producing rigorous and policy-relevant research.

This workshop aims to provide PhD students and researchers with a practical insight into web scraping as a method for collecting digital data for social science research.

The session will begin with an overall presentation outlining key methodological principles, data collection strategies, and best practices for building rigorous datasets using digital technologies.

The workshop will then move to a hands-on session, where participants will explore web scraping and digital data collection techniques, reflecting on how these methods can be applied to their own research topics and projects.

The final part of the workshop will consist of an open discussion and roundtable, where participants will present ideas, challenges, and potential applications of web scraping within their research areas. The session will conclude with a brief synthesis of key insights and methodological takeaways.
